CISCO Academy

CISCO (www.cisco.com) is today the leading and largest networking company. From powerful routers in the backbone of the Internet to IP phones at employees’ tables, CISCO active network equipment is very much represented in use, especially in middle range and larger networks. Like some other companies, CISCO has an industrial certification program for professionals in the areas of network equipment and technology. Learn more about this at: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/training-events/training-certifications/overview.html.

The most popular level of certification is CCNA -Cisco Certified Network Associate which is related to switching, namely, knowing the appropriate network protocols and working with the most popular CISCO routers and commutators. In order to obtain a CCNA certificate, it is necessary to pass the appropriate exam in one of the Pearson-VUE testing centres. The specificity of this and of similar CISCO exams is that the exam evaluates the experience in working with real network equipment, routers and commutators, and this is something that can only be partially simulated on a personal computer.

CISCO Network Academy, a very popular way to prepare for the CCNA exam is the CISCO program of Network Academies (more about this program http://www.cisco.com/go/netacad). Through this program, CISCO in cooperation with educational institutions around the world, organizes training of participants in the field of network technologies and work with CISCO network equipment. It works according to the official teaching material (in electronic format), with the recommended hardware. Although the most common reason why people choose to attend a networking academy is to prepare for CCNA exams, the Academy itself also aims to provide some basic training in network technology.

Teaching at the network academy takes place during four semesters, each lasting about 2 months, or until all lectures and practical activities are completed. The subject of a semester is divided into 9-11 modules, with different topics, and after each module, the appropriate theoretical exam in electronic form is passed. After the completion of the semester there are also final theoretical and final practical exams which are a precondition for the next semester and for obtaining the diploma and accompanying letter of the completed semester. The first semester deals with the basics of network technologies and protocols and before the end of the semester the basic configuration of the network equipment is done. In second semester the routing is studied: getting to know the routing protocols (RIP, OSPF, EIGRP) and the configuration on network equipment. In third semester, the subject is switching (STP, VLAN, VTP ...) and acquaintance with the basics of wireless networks. In fourth semester the subject are WAN technologies, network security equipment, access control lists, NAT, etc. Upon completion of all four semesters, as well as tests for preparation, CISCO approves the discount for students for the first exam. Currently, a discount is up to 58%.

School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Applied Studies has the status of a local network academy and has the appropriate number of instructors. The Academy works both theoretically and practically on the envisaged equipment, in one of two specialized laboratories in the school.

The course dates are Monday and Thursday, from 17:00 to 21:00. The price of the network academy course is 21.600,00 dinars per semester.
