Requirements: Knowledge of basic concepts in electrical engineering and mathematics.
Goal: Introduce students to the design and execution of electrical installations and electrical lighting.
Outcome: Students will be trained in the designing and execution of electrical installations and lighting.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Introductory lecture (the organization and content of the course). Technical regulations for the execution of the electrical installations. Electrical installation project. Standards. Technical recommendations.
  2. Definition and classification of the electrical installations (EI), EI of the high and low voltage. Levels of voltage. Safety systems of the power supply.
  3. The receivers of electricity. Reactive power compensation.
  4. Basic components of the high voltage system EI. Conductors. Permanently permitted current.
  5. Cables. The installation and cable accessories.
  6. Switches, fuses and other protective components.
  7. Protection of electrical installations against overload and short circuit. Selectivity of protection. Differential current protection device.
  8. Protection against direct and indirect contact, electric shock. TN, TT, IT systems.
  9. Design and execution of the connection of the building. Electrical meters. Distribution cabinets.
  10. Grounding systems. Parts of the grounding, protecting, working, lightning-conductor and join grounding. Types of groundings.
  11. Lighting protection systems. Elements of installation, levels of protection, protected areas. Project of the lighting-conductor’s installation.
  12. Electrical Installation to buildings and structures which includes wiring systems, cable calculations and security systems.
  13. Electrical lighting, quantities and units. Electrical sources of light. Light fixture.
  14. Indoor lighting. Internal illumination quality factors.Calculation of the rooms’ lighting.
  15. Computer design of the electrical installations.
