Control System I Course code: 140207 | 6 ECTS credits

Basic information
Level of Studies: Undergraduate applied studies
Year of Study: 2
Semester: 3
Requirements:
Goal: This module is designed to provide necessary understanding of basic theories and application of linear time invariant systems.
Outcome: On successful completion of this module, students should be able to design models of linear time invariant systems, as well as to test properties of designed models in time and frequency domain.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Introduction. Term and definition of automatics. Basic tasks of Automatic Control Systems (ACS)
  2. General structure of ACS. Development of a mathematical model. Linearization.
  3. Analysis in the time domain. Pols and zeros. Step response and system parameters of 1st and 2nd order.
  4. Characterization of continuous systems in stationary state.
  5. Characterization of continuous systems in transient mode.
  6. Modeling in a time domain. State space. Conversion of the transfer function to the state space.
  7. Alternative forms of the space model model: cascade and parallel forms, Jordan's, controlled and obscure canonical form.
  8. Analysis in the frequency domain. Frequency characteristics of systems of 1st and 2nd order.
  9. Bode diagrams.
  10. Stability of dynamic systems, concept of equilibrium state.
  11. Algebraic criteria for testing the stability of linear systems. Raus's criterion.
  12. Hurwitz criterion.
  13. Grafoanalytic stability criteria. Nikvist's criterion. Criteria of Mihailo
  14. Characterization of ACS in the complex domain - root locus analysis
  15. Colloquium
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Working into a hardware laboratory with the active participation of students. Students independently or with the assistance of an assistant solve set up tasks in the field of control. Solving of specific tasks based on set exercises in the Manual.
