Basic information
Level of Studies: Undergraduate applied studies

Goal: The aim of this module is to understand basic theories and application of sensors and actuators on modern vehicles.
Outcome: After successful completion of this module student shall be qualified to perform fidelity test of sensors and actuators on modern vehicles.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Sensors on vehicles (basic terms, classification, typical curve of output sensor signals, specific, integration rate, development prospects ), construction, operation principle, characteristic signals, diagnostic communication and osciloscopic measurement, errors and their consequences to electronic systems on the vehicle.
  2. Temperature sensors.
  3. Position sensors.
  4. Turn number sensors and velocity.
  5. Acceleration sensors and vibration.
  6. Pressure sensors.
  7. Force / torque sensors.
  8. Flow sensors.
  9. Gas concentration sensors (Lambda probe).
  10. Specific optoelectronic sensors (rain sensors, sensors for object detection, sensors contamination headlights).
  11. Actuators in vehicles (basic concepts, classification, application and development prospects).
  12. Relay and electro-magnetic valves.
  13. Injectors in otto engines.
  14. Injectors in diesel engines.
  15. Induction coil.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Performed in garage-laboratory on modern vehicles with sudents’ engagement. Students independently or with the help of the lecturer solve given tasks in the field sensors and actuators in vehicles, according to the tasks in the Handbook.
